Cameron Diaz & Alex Rodriguez: Mexico R&R!

Making the short trip from Los Angeles to Mexico, Cameron Diaz and Cameron Diaz enjoyed a day by the pool in the south of the border locale on Sunday (December 19).

The “Knight & Day” actress proudly showed off her bikini body in a black two piece as she joined her Yankees slugger beau and his kiddies for the holiday getaway.

The trip down south comes as Miss Diaz recently returned to the States following an overseas press tour for her upcoming movie “The Green Hornet”.

Due out in theaters on January 14th, a synopsis of the film via IMDB reads: “By night, debonair newspaper publisher Britt Reid fights crime as a masked superhero known as The Green Hornet. At his side is martial arts expert Kato.”

Five Things About Stunts With Cameron Diaz’s Stunt Double

Talk to me about stunts for even a minute or two and you’ll see I’ve got a few chips on my shoulder. Stunt performers seem so unfairly unrecognised, so underappreciated, by the movie going public at large, and it’s been a bugbear of mine ever since I first started falling in love with action movies. As it happens, it seems I’m a bit more burnt up about it than a lot of stunt people…

Previously, I have posted an interview with long-time second unit director and stunt co-ordinator Charlie Picerni; now that Knight and Day is available on Blu-ray and DVD, I was given the opportunity to speak to Cameron Diaz’s stunt double for the film, Kimberly Shannon Murphy. They make a nice pair of contrasting chats.

Here are Five Things that Kimberly told me.

That Whole Thing About Actors Doing Their Own Stunts

In Knight and Day, with Tom and Cameron, they did do their stunts and they are stunts. I think anything that is action oriented is considered a stunt in the film industry. I would agree that the things we call stunts are the things that are high risk. There’s a lot more to our job than actually performing the stunts and that is to rehearse everything, to choreograph everything, to make sure that everything’s safe. There are plenty of actors who don’t want to do their own stunts and then you come across others that really want to do as much as they can do and Tom and Cameron are definitely two of those people.

A lot of the action was on first unit, and we had the actors on second unit a lot as well. I think that any time you can get the actor to do as much of the action as possible it makes it look that much more real and with Tom and Cameron actually coming and doing the bull run and everything they did on the bike, it always makes it easier for the director to shoot it.

I just worked with Cameron on Bad Teacher for one day. She had a bit of a driving sequence to do, and whenever there’s action to do in a movie, they’ll always bring a stunt double just for protection, but whenever there’s driving stuff Cameron does all of her driving herself. She did all of it in Knight and Day. When you see the car doing the 180, that was her, she enjoyed it the whole evening, she was laughing from beginning to end.

Recognition For Stunt Performers And Co-Ordinators

I’ve never honestly given it that much thought. It’s part of our job to be behind the scenes. We have our own, we have the Taurus Stunt Awards that we do every year. So we’re recognised within our own community, as the actors are recognised in their own community. It doesn’t bother me that the awards aren’t front page news. But they are televised.

I think that for any films that I’ve worked on, everyone appreciates everything that stunt people do and what they bring to the table when it comes to making a film. I’ve never felt unappreciated when it comes to what I do. I like being anonymous. For me, and for most stunt people, we’re not in the business for people to be all over what we do. We do what we do because we love it and we love being part of the moviemaking process and that’s enough for us.

Motion-Capture Stunts vs. Real Stunts

You can definitely tell the difference when something is happening for real and when it’s happening motion capture. You’re still doing the stunts, though, you’re only in a motion capture suit with dots. The action is actually happening. But personally, for me, with films I’ve seen with motion capture I’m not that impressed. Even if it’s really good you can tell that it’s not live. I’ve done some motion capture during my career. [For which film] is a secret.

The Job Of Doing Stunts

I’ve done a couple of smaller acting roles that are attached to stunts. They want to hire somebody who can deliver a couple of lines and then get killed. I’ve done some of that, but it’s not like, ever in my life, I was like “I want to be an actress”. I’m happy with what I do.

When you’re doubling an actor, if you have to do something for them, you definitely have to watch their demeanor, how they move and how they do things to replicate them, so that you do look similar when you do what you’re needed to do.

Not until I was in it did I know that I wanted to stay in it. It wasn’t something that I grew up saying that I wanted to do. I was a gymnast and this is all just kind of how my life went. A stunt co-ordinator was looking for somebody who was around my size to do a movie and to do a lot of gymnastics and wire stuff, and that’s what I did and that’s how I got the job. I really enjoyed it, so I kept pursuing it.

Anytime going into a stunt I do get that nervous and excited kind of adrenaline. I’ve never been afraid for my life, no. In my job I’m a thrill seeker, but I keep it all at work, pretty much.

There’s no bad stunt person that works in the business. If they do one job and they don’t work well, they normally don’t get hired again. Anybody who’s in the stunt business who’s continually working is good at what they do.

Lady Stunts

Obviously, it’s kind of a man’s world. There’s fewer movies you see of women doing action and there’s more movies of men doing action, though I think that’s starting to even out and there’s more women doing action movies that centre just on them. That’s definitely exciting to see, so I hope that continues and becomes a bigger thing.

Cameron and A-Rod Attend Joanna Garcia’s Wedding

It was a home run kind of night for New York Yankees outfielder Nick Swisher and actress Joanna Garcia as they became man and wife in front of family and friends on Saturday.

The bride wore an ivory, strapless, drop-waist ball gown and veil by Monique Lhuillier, and the groom wore a tux by Burberry London.

They celebrated into the evening at the Breakers Hotel & Resort in Palm Beach alongside all-star guests including Garcia’s castmates, Cameron Diaz and Swisher’s Yankee teammates Alex Rodriguez and Johnny Damon. Jamie-Lynn Sigler, Reba McEntire and Lance Bass were all part of the wedding party.

Garcia, 31, who stars in the ABC sitcom Better with You, and Swisher, 30, got engaged in May. “I think for the first time in my life, I have a woman who I could not be more proud of,” Swisher told PEOPLE in November. “We do such a great job really pushing the other one to do better and I think that’s what you have to have.”

Cameron Diaz and A-Rod Vacation in Mexico

Cameron Diaz and Alex Rodriquez took a steamy shower together in Mexico, each hosing their toned torsos after taking a romantic dip in the ocean.

Less than a month after reportedly breaking up, the actress and Yankees slugger are doing their best to send an emphatic message to world that they’re very much still an item.

As we reported, the pair was photographed early this week on boat trip in Miami.

The couple snuggled on a luxury vessel as it toured Biscayne Bay; she was wearing a skimpy black bikini and he showing off his buff body without a shirt.

Diaz, 38, and Rodriguez, 35, were first seen together in February flirting at a Miami party the night before the Super Bowl.

Cameron Diaz & Alex Rodriguez: Back Together?

Sparking rumors of a reunion, Cameron Diaz and Alex Rodriguez were spotted leaving a fitness center in South Beach, Miami yesterday (November 23).

The “Sweetest Thing” actress looked a bit camera shy as she rode in the passenger seat of A-Rod’s black Mercedes.

Additionally, Cameron and Alex were seen enjoying a trip on a luxury yacht in Miami Beach earlier this month.

The could-be couple looked to be in trouble last month when Cameron was spotted out with Matthew Morrison, but perhaps she missed Rodriguez and decided to give things another go.

Bad Teacher Moves Into Summer

Columbia Pictures will release the comedy Bad Teacher on June 17, 2011, as school gets out for the summer moviegoing season, it was announced today by Jeff Blake, chairman, Worldwide Marketing and Distribution for Sony Pictures.

The comedy, which centers on a hilariously foul-mouthed, bitter, and irreverent middle school teacher, stars Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake, Lucy Punch, John Michael Higgins, and Jason Segel, and is directed by Jake Kasdan, written by Gene Stupnitsky & Lee Eisenberg, and produced by Mosaic’s Jimmy Miller and David Householter.

Commenting on the announcement, Blake said, “We love how this movie is shaping up, and our early test screenings confirm our confidence. We have had tremendous results with summer comedies in the past several years, from ‘Superbad’ and ‘Step Brothers’ to ‘Grown Ups’ and ‘The Other Guys.’ Summer audiences want movies that will make them laugh out loud and we think ‘Bad Teacher’ is the perfect choice for older teens and adults who are looking for a film that will make them look at the high school experience and do just that.”

Cameron Diaz Explores Our Relationship With Food

People ask a lot of questions about food: What does it taste like? How many calories does it have? And who cooked it?

One of the questions we need to ask (but rarely do) is, “Where did it come from?”

The disintegration and sterilization of our relationship with food is only one of the pressing topics that will be featured in a new PBS program called Nourish: Food + Community.

The show will be hosted by actress Cameron Diaz, whom some will remember as the spirited host of the green travel show “Trippin’” that aired on MTV.

Unlike many of the foodie shows on television today, which are little more than live-action recipe cards, Nourish will enlist food movement all-stars like Michael Pollan, Alice Waters, Jamie Oliver, and Anna Lappé to help audiences understand the impact of their food choices.

Cameron Diaz Offered a Role in Dark Puppet Movie The Happytime Murders

What would you get if Hollywood crossed Avenue Q with The Silence of the Lambs? The Henson Company has long been developing an “alternative” puppet project aimed at adults, and it’s suddenly gained traction: Vulture hears Cameron Diaz has been offered a starring role in The Happytime Murders, a mystery set in a world in which humans and puppets co-exist, but puppets are viewed as second-class citizens. No deal has been made yet — Happytime moved to Lionsgate Films only as of last month — but insiders tell us the Diaz camp is excited to read it.

It’s easy to see why talent agencies have flipped out for the darkly comic, anti-Muppet puppet movie: It’s kind of the Muppet movie you’d always kind of hoped Henson would make. And as it happens, a Henson will make it: Regardless if Diaz accepts or demures, we’re told that Lionsgate plans to start shooting Happytime by January with Jim Henson’s son Brian, the Henson Company’s co-chairman, directing. (Just without any actual Muppets; the whole lot of ‘em were sold to the Walt Disney Company in February 2004.)

Still, as one of our spies explains: “This is definitely not a PG-13 movie. They’re not fucking around with this: It’s ‘Go big or go home.’” Vulture can confirm that’s not just hyperbole, having acquired a copy of the script: One scene has a character opening the wrong door at the “Puppet Pleasureland,” and finding a cow puppet on a massage table having all of its teats milked by an octopus puppet. Reads the stage direction: “The cow MOOS in ecstasy. MILK is just SQUIRTING EVERYWHERE.” Sam the Eagle would be shocked. Shocked!
