Diaz: Don’t count on seeing me in ‘Shrek’ musical

Cameron Diaz says she’s a big fan of “Shrek the Musical” but has no desire to star in it.

The actress, who voices Princess Fiona in the “Shrek” film franchise, raved about the musical adaptation of the animated blockbuster at its Broadway opening Sunday night.

Asked whether she’d consider portraying Fiona on stage, she said: “No. Absolutely not. What they do up there … is, to me, impossible. It’s wonderful, though. They’ve done such a great job. They worked really hard, and it really pays off.”

Tony-winning actress Sutton Foster plays Fiona in “Shrek the Musical,” which began preview performances last month at the Broadway Theatre. Actor Brian d’Arcy James portrays the titular smelly green ogre who lives in a swamp and falls for Fiona.

“It’s hilarious,” said Diaz, sporting a white Bill Blass dress, black Dior coat and bright red lips. “There’s so many laughs. … It’s great to see all the actors playing it together, because when we do it for the animated (films), we never see each other. We don’t work together.”

Diaz reprises her voice role in the fourth “Shrek” film, slated for release in 2010. Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy will return as Shrek and Donkey, respectively.

Joining Diaz at Sunday’s performance were America Ferrera, Joan Rivers, Rosie Perez, Kathie Lee Gifford, Hoda Kotb, Phylicia Rashad, and Ben Stiller and his wife, actress Christine Taylor.

“We are ‘Shrek’ fans at our house,” Stiller said while Taylor posed for photographs on the red carpet. “And we’re going to go check out the musical and let the kids know if it’s suitable for children.”

Rivers bantered with Gifford and Kotb, who co-host the fourth hour of NBC’s “Today Show.” When Gifford asked for Rivers’ favorite “Shrek” character, Rivers responded: “Oh yeah, like I care! We’re all grown-ups! I’m thrilled to be here.”

Rivers, who had a cameo in 2004′s “Shrek 2,” cracked: “I’m part of the family. But I’m not hardly, like, excited to see ‘Shrek’ (onstage).”

Cameron Diaz Designs An Eco-Themed Lunchbox For Charity

Cameron Diaz — along with other celebs like Gwyneth Paltrow, Tom Colicchio and Salman Rushdie — has designed a lunch box to help benefit hunger relief. Called “The Lunchbox Auction”, all proceeds raised through sales of the creative designs will benefit the Food Bank for New York City and The Lunchbox Fund — which provides lunch to impoverished school children in South Africa.

Not surprisingly, Diaz’s creation is green-themed. One side depicts remnants of an environmental friendly lunch of whole foods and a metal fork. The other side shows a wasteful lunch: paper, plastic fork and cup, and a juice box. Actress Ellen Page, of Juno fame, took an entirely different route and created a lobster trap box, complete with stuffed lobster. Looks like a real bummer of a lunch box to me!

The auction will go until next Thursday — starting bids are at $100. Click here to learn more!

What Happens In Vegas gets listed in the Top 10 Worst Movies Of 2008

And yet again we have another “list”!

This time, the New York Post has compiled the Top 10 Worst Movies of 2008.

And in the top this year is the obvious What Happens In Vegas with Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz.

Also on the list is Mad Money featuring Diane Keaton, Katie Holmes and Queen Latifah.

But, the number 1 worst movie of 2008 goes to Mike MyersThe Love Guru. We bet it was because of Jessica Alba.

Check out the entire top 10 list….after the jump!

10. “Beverly Hills Chihuahua”
We thought the whole talking dogs fad was over, but apparently, it’s not. George Lopez and Drew Barrymore provide voices for this 2008 flop about zany California dogs.

9. “Witless Protection”
Larry the Cable Guy followed up 2006’s “Larry The Cable Guy: Health Inspector” and 2007’s “Delta Farce” with this “Witless” effort. Larry’s 0-for-3. So bad, we didn’t bother reviewing it.

8. “Rambo”
Did we need another “Rambo”? No, but Sly Stallone gave us one – an ultra-gorefest, even by Stallone standards.

7. “You Don’t Mess With The Zohan”
Adam Sandler makes the list with his tale of an Israeli special forces soldier who dreams of being a hairstylist. Childish humor from a familiar source.

6. “Babylon A.D.”
Starring master thespian Vin Diesel, “Babylon A.D.” went way over budget and there were reports of ego clashes between Diesel and director Mathieu Kassovitz. Released six months after its original release date, the film wasn’t even screened for New York critics.

5. “10,000 B.C.”
“10,000 B.C” could be called the movie the Museum of Natural History doesn’t want you to see. Full of special effects but lacking a shred of authenticity, the film was widely panned.

4. “What Happens In Vegas”
“What Happens In Vegas” stars Ashton Kutcher and Cameron Diaz as two people who get married after a booze-fueled night in Sin City, and the wacky adventures that transpire after they also win a large sum of money. The easy joke is that this bomb should have stayed in Vegas. We took the easy way out.

3. “Mad Money”
With a trio of actresses like Diane Keaton, Katie Holmes and Queen Latifah, what could have possibly gone wrong with “Mad Money”? Everything, apparently. But mostly the fact that this comedy had no laughs.

2. “The Hottie & The Nottie”
Is it worth describing the plot to this Paris Hilton-starred stinker? We won’t bother, because you shouldn’t bother watching it. According to Box Office Mojo, the film grossed less than $1.6 million as of Nov. 26, which sounds generous.

1. “The Love Guru”
Our number one worst movie is “The Love Guru,” co-written and starring “SNL” alum Mike Myers as Guru Pitka, a man on a quest to become the #1 guru. Films like “Guru” and 2003’s “The Cat in the Hat” are destroying all the comedy credibilty Myers built through the “Wayne’s World” and “Austin Powers” films. Thank goodness for “Shrek.” “Guru” also stars acting legends Jessica Alba and Justin Timberlake.

Cameron Diaz Tours New Orleans

Many neighborhoods have not yet been restored in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina. However, several individuals and independent organizations continue to work hard to rebuild these communities. For instance, Brad Pitt’s “Make It Right” NOLA Foundation was first to build hurricane sustainable homes in some of the hardest hit areas. Global Green’s Holy Cross project is another do-good organization working in New Orleans.  During the season finale of the Sundance Channel’s hit show Iconoclasts, actress Cameron Diaz and Cameron Sinclair, the co-founder of Architecture for Humanity, toured New Orleans in order to take a closer look at Hurricane Katrina’s legacy. Architecture for Humanity is a global organization that finds architectural solutions to humanitarian crisis and communities in need.

Habitat for Humanity is yet another global organization working to help those in need. To find out how you can be a part of this effort, visit any of the organizations’ websites mentioned above.
