Cameron Diaz thinks women fear being “shunned” if they don’t want to have children – but she’s not about to succumb to any social pressure.

“I never say never. I don’t know what’s going to happen,” the single star, 36, tells Cosmopolitan’s U.K. edition. “I could end up adopting half a dozen kids, or I could end up being the next ‘octomum’ – who fricking knows!”

Cameron Diaz was in the middle of filming My Sister’s Keeper last year when her father Emilio died suddenly during a bout with pneumonia. The actress credits the cast, crew and director with helping her get through the ordeal – and finish the movie.

“I was really, really fortunate to have these people to come back to,” Diaz told reporters Friday while promoting the film, which costars Abigail Breslin and Sofia Vasssilieva. “Being able to go back to the group of people who were there waiting for me was a blessing, … so that’s really sort of the only way I was able to do it.”

During Diaz’s nearly two-week absence, they shot around her, explained director Nick Cassavetes. “To talk about this subject, you really have to say that people are more important than movies, and we forget that sometimes,” Cassavetes says. “We were all stunned to find out that he had died so suddenly and, apparently, he was a hell of a guy and a gigantic influence on Cameron.”

Cameron Diaz says she’s still not ready to start a family, and feels no pressure to do so. The actress, who recently split from British model Paul Sculfor, says a lot of her is down to not having children.

She said: “It doesn’t bother me. It’s not the cross I bear. I’m not somebody who is going to declare either way if I’m absolutely going to or I’m absolutely not going to have children.

“I have no idea. I’m still young. I have an unbelievable life. In some ways, I have the life that I have because I don’t have children.

Back on the mainland after a relaxing Hawaiian vacation, Cameron Diaz was spotted out and about in New York City on Thursday afternoon (May 28).

Looking cute and casual, the “Shrek” sweetheart hopped out of the backseat of a chauffeured SUV before making the short walk to her Big Apple destination.

Meanwhile, Miss Diaz recently chatted with press about whether or not she plans on starting up a family soon – as she’s currently 36-years-old.

“I’m not somebody who is going to declare either way if I’m absolutely going to or I’m absolutely not going to have children. I have no idea,” Diaz tells Parade. “I’m still young. I have an unbelievable life. In some ways, I have the life that I have because I don’t have children.”

Telling that there’s still a chance that kiddies are in the future, Cameron adds, “I don’t think it’s a compromise to have children. Everything I’m bringing into my life right now isn’t geared toward that. It might be one day.”

Diaz stars in the upcoming movie My Sister’s Keeper, directed by Cassavetes. Apatow is writer, director and producer of the new film Funny People, starring Adam Sandler. And Tom Cruise is, well, Tom Cruise. Watch it on AMC, Friday May 15, at 10PM.
