Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake were once a real life couple and now they’re reuniting on screen – but there was nothing awkward about the former flames working together.

Being on set with Timberlake, 30, on the upcoming Bad Teacher “really wasn’t a big deal,” Diaz, 38, said before accepting the award for Female Star of the Year at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Wednesday. “We had a great time.”

And the pair’s shared sense of humor came in handy. “Justin and I have always had a good laugh together, and to make a movie where we get to have a laugh together,” Diaz said. “There really was no one else who was more perfect for this part. That’s why he got the part.”

In the movie, Diaz plays a foul-mouthed teacher who sets her sights on Timberlake, a new colleague at the school.

“He’s a genius comedian, everybody knows,” she said. “Saturday Night Live and all the stuff that he’s done over the years, he’s clearly talented. We went for the best person for the job, and it just so happened that it was him. And he delivers.”

“Extra” caught up with lovely actress Cameron Diaz as she was being honored with the CinemaCon Female Star of the Year award in Las Vegas — and asked her about the rumor that she’s developing a movie to star in with real-life beau, baseball star Alex Rodriguez.

“I don’t know where these things come from,” Diaz laughed. “It’s absolutely not true. I don’t write. Wow, when did I become a writer?”

Diaz also chatted about how much fun she had making “Bad Teacher” with Jason Segel and her ex, Justin Timberlake. “It was so much fun. That’s the perfect example of just doing a movie to have a good time. There’s no other reason to do that movie. Both Jason and Justin, who are two of the funniest guys… I felt really lucky we all got to do that together.”

“Bad Teacher” starts class June 24.

Cameron Diaz steps out to promote her new movie Bad Teacher at CinemaCon held at Caesar’s Palace on Wednesday (March 30) in Las Vegas, Nev.

The 38-year-old actress received the Female Star of the Year award at the convention where movie theater owners from around the country gather every year.

The day before, Cameron supported her boyfriend Alex Rodriguez at a spring training game for his baseball team, the New York Yankees.

FYI: Cameron is wearing a Roland Mouret dress, an Elizabeth and James jacket, Lanvin shoes and a gold bangle by Gemma Redux.

Cameron Diaz cheers on her boyfriend Alex Rodriguez at a New York Yankees spring training game held at George Steinbrenner Field on Tuesday (March 29) in Tampa, Fla.

The Yankees took on the Detroit Tigers and beat them 2 to 1.

Cameron is reportedly working on a new movie for her to possibly star in with Alex.

The film will be a romantic comedy and revolve around Major League Baseball so the two could spend more time together.
