Sesame Street slot for first lady

U.S. first lady Michelle Obama is to kick off the 40th anniversary season of the children’s TV show “Sesame Street” with a segment encouraging kids to plant gardens and eat healthy food.

Obama, who is planting a fruit and vegetable garden on the grounds of the White House, will appear in the November10 season debut of “Sesame Street” — the educational show for kids that is broadcast in more than 120 countries around the world.

Producers said on Tuesday that Obama will teach the furry “residents” of Sesame Street about the benefits of growing a garden and healthy living, and will show children how to plant tomato, cucumber and lettuce seeds.

“All these seeds need to grow are sun, soil and water. If you eat these healthy foods, you’re going to grow up to be big and strong, like me,” Obama says.

“I know you’re going to like these vegetables, because in addition to being healthy, they really taste great!”

The new season will highlight a two-year science initiative on “Sesame Street” called “My World is Green & Growing.” The show is broadcast on public television in the United States.

Michelle Obama in March broke ground on the first fruit and vegetable garden at the White House since World War Two. The 1,100 sq ft garden will grow some 50 fruits and vegetables for use in the White House kitchen.

Other celebrities due to make “Sesame Street” guest appearances in the 40th season include actresses Cameron Diaz, Eva Longoria-Parker, British comedy actor Ricky Gervais and U.S. basketball star Kobe Bryant.

Green Hornet’s Having a Hell of a Time Getting Made

normal_2561646

What with the crashing, the smoke and the shakeups, it seems as if The Green Hornet is in need of its own superhero.

But the production is plugging along despite the latest mishap, a bitty bomb scare today on the film’s Los Angeles set.

LAPD were called to the Wilshire Boulevard location when crewmembers discovered an unfamiliar-looking metal object lying in the parking lot.

To protect the rights and lives of decent citizens, the bomb squad promptly exploded the item on site, a routine tactic they also took when a Mission: Impossible III promotional stunt went awry in 2006. An innocent newspaper rack was among the collateral damage then.

“Everything is clear, they only found a smoke detector,” a police spokesman told E! News Tuesday. No word on whether Seth Rogen and Cameron Diaz were around for the show.

It was no illusion, however, when a stuntman lost control of a car and plowed into the top-tier Creative Artists Agency in Century City earlier this month while shooting a chase scene.

The stuntman was fine, but The Green Hornet, which director Michel Gondry took over after original helmer Stephen Chow dropped out, is starting to get a reputation.

Paul Dano Joins Tom Cruise, Cameron Diaz in Action-Comedy

Variety reports that Paul Dano has signed on to star with Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz in the upcoming action-comedy from director James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma, Walk the Line). You might remember Dano from his memorable performances as the preacher rival of Daniel Day-Lewis in There Will Be Blood and as the mute, Nietzsche-reading teen in Little Miss Sunshine. The Mangold movie, formerly titled Wichita and yet to be renamed, involves a partnership between Cruise and Diaz, who play a federal agent and a perky Midwesterner, respectively. According to IMDb’s plot description, they embark on “a whirlwind of globe-hopping adventure and world-changing secrets.” One of these adventures involves the pursuit of Dano’s character, an enigmatic inventor-scientist. Shooting begins in Boston next month, and the movie is scheduled for a July 2, 2010 release.
